چکیده

The timeand frequency-varying behavior of an indoor power-line network is the result of variable impedance loads connected to its termination points. In fact, any signal transmitted through such a communications network is subject to time-varying multipath fading. In this paper, an analytical calculation method is presented, which can be used to determine the multipath components of any point-to-point channel in the indoor power-line environment. The method calculates all transmission characteristics of the network and, therefore, it can be exploited in the process of designing proper transmission algorithms for optimizing system performance. The proposed method is applied to an example network to demonstrate its usefulness in explaining the network’s time-dependent behavior and in estimating channel parameters, such as subchannel bandwidth, multipath delay spread, fading conditions, etc.

A New Approach to the Modeling of the Transfer Function of the Power Line Channel

Abstract – The “indoor” access network is characterized by several branches and impedance mismatches that cause many reflections. In the present paper, a new way of modeling the transfer function of a power line is proposed. The proposed model starts by considering the power line channel as a uniform transmission line. This allows the power line channel to be described as a cascade of simple tw...

Diversity Characterization of a Wideband Multi-element Antenna for Indoor Wireless Communication

In this paper we introduce a wideband three-element diversity antenna for compact wireless communication systems operating at the 4-6 GHz band. A series of experiments to characterize the diversity performance of the antenna for non-line-of-sight (NLOS) indoor multipath environments have been conducted. From these experiments, we calculate envelope correlation, power imbalance, and diversity ga...

Indoor Non-directed Optical Wireless Communications - Optimization of the Lambertian Order

For an indoor non-directed line of sight optical wireless communication (NLOS-OWC) system we investigate the optimized Lambertian order (OLO) of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). We firstly derive an expression for the OLO from a conventional Lambertian LED model. Then, we analyze the indoor multi-cell NLOS-OWC channel characteristics including the optical power distribution and the multipath time ...

Analytical computation of multipath components in the indoor power grid

Varying impedance loads connected to the termination points of power-line channels result in variable channel behavior. Any transmitted signal in such a communications system is subject to time-varying multipath fading. In this paper we present a method for determining the multipath components of any transmitterreceiver pair in the indoor power-line environment. Such information could be valuab...

Indoor Multipath Characterization for MIMO Wireless Communications

The achievable linear increase in multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) capacity is conditioned on “sufficientlyrich multipath” presenting in a wireless channel. Thus, the characterization of the resolvable multipaths in an indoor environment dictates the obtainable MIMO capacity at a certain SNR level. In this paper, the statistic relationship between the characteristics of multipaths and the p...
